Tairua

Tairua is a Maori place name meaning "two tides." It is a small seaside resort and fishing village with a harbour linking two sandy white ocean beaches.

Paku, a twin-coned hill was once an island. It is now joined by a sand dune and stands at the harbour heads.

Situated on the Coromandel's east coast, Tairua is a favourite holiday resort for many New Zealanders.

There is a small shopping village with most tourist facilities, a variety of restaurants, pottery studios and art galleries.
